The first one won't be, but they've already confirmed that the f-bomb will be dropped at least twice early on (I suppose episode two or three).

Because the show was originally planned and executive produced by Bryan Fuller, who has a tendency to give all of his main female characters male names.

Nope.  None of Bryan Fuller's other female lead characters had one either, IIRC.  It's just his thing.

As for as pilot episodes go, it's pretty good.  Still hard to beat The Cage.

They earned that TV-MA this week.  I thought it would be something like a bloody Klingon fight with swords but nope.

Season 2 coming.  As far as right now, still on CBS All Access.

I still miss the exploration side of Star Trek, but Star Trek take on war is still always kind interesting.

Spoiler
Granted, they are finding new lifeforms.  Instead of meeting them and understanding them, Discovery is hooking them up to their warp core and throwing away/releasing them afterward.

I am, sadly, done with the show after the fifth episode.  Too gory for me.  It's a shame everything has to be grimdark graphically violent these days, but c'est la vie.

I'm just watching it to see how far away from Star Trek it can get.  Last episode involved Captain Lorca going all PTSD on his Admiral, who he had just gotten drunk and had sex with, then (perhaps innocently) had her go into a Klingon trap which conveniently kept her from reporting his fucked up mental state to anybody else.  But we did get to Sarek doing Vulcan-fu which was fucking rad.  Enterprise and Spock were both referenced too.

It's back so:
Spoiler
Mirror universe!  Goateed Sarek!  The Constitution class Defiant!  That one guy is that fucking albino Klingon dude!  He killed the doctor!

I'm still interested in this I guess.

I still haven't watched anything past the fifth episode, but I heard about Doctor Culbert getting killed.  However, during the latest After Trek talkshow episode, it was mentioned that that wasn't the last time we'll see the doctor, sooo...

I am so desperate for new science-fiction that won't make me vomit, that lately I've been watching Star Trek: Voyager on Amazon Prime Video. :borg:

Yep.  The first couple of episodes were meh, but it quickly became very good.  Sadly, it's over until October.

I really need them to actually do a plot that isn't from a Star Trek show.
